Swimwear Made to Be Seen: How Neon Swimwear Can Save Your Child's Life

All too often we hear news of children drowning in backyard pools, lakes, or the ocean, with an intense spike in drownings in the summer months. HiViz Swimwear was created by three dedicated and creative mothers from Maine (Mary Estes, Brittany Paul, and Miranda Goodspeed). The mission of HiViz Swimwear is to allow parents to easily see their children when they are in highly populated areas, or even highly intense waters.

Co-creator Mary Estes recently had a scare with her two year old son, who disappeared at the beach. This is what inspired her to create HiViz Swimwear, which is quickly expanding.

hiviz Founders mary estes, brittany paul, and miranda goodspeed.

The founders state that they are working to further expand the brand into swimwear, trunks, hats, and even adult-sized rash guards. With extensive testing performed on the benefits of neon swimwear, this is an exciting solution to help change the narrative when it comes to youth and infant drowning levels.

In an exciting twist, the renowned American fashion house, Anne Klein, has revealed a star-studded collaboration with supermodel turned entrepreneur Candice Swanepoel (who's recently been linked to heartthrob Harry Styles.) This dynamic duo is joining forces with the esteemed organization, Custom Collaborative, in a concerted effort to catalyze meaningful change, empowering women and nurturing our planet.

Launched strategically in April, the Earth Month, this collaboration wasn't exactly a bolt from the blue for industry insiders. Swanepoel, best known as the iconic Victoria’s Secret Angel, already graces the Anne Klein brand as an ambassador. Beyond her supermodel status, Swanepoel helms the popular swimwear brand, Tropic of C, and is a fervent advocate for eco-friendly fashion. This mission aligns seamlessly with her commitment to Anne Klein and Custom Collaborative, as she prepares to mentor the fashion trailblazers of tomorrow.

Custom Collaborative, widely acclaimed for its impact on women and youth, is thrilled about the partnership. The initiative will spearhead a mentorship program aimed at underprivileged women, aged between 25-56, who are keen on navigating the sustainable fashion landscape. Sixteen women, forming a unique cohort, will embark on this transformative journey.

The program, which has already hit the ground running, features Anne Klein generously donating an array of products to the aspiring designers to facilitate their fashion studies, encompassing areas like sewing, pattern making, and sales. Simultaneously, Custom Collaborative has designed an extensive 15-week course focusing on reimagining industry sustainability.

The culmination of these efforts will be an end-of-summer fashion extravaganza where the cohort will display their creations. Jameel Spencer, an executive at Anne Klein, effused, "This partnership perfectly encapsulates Anne Klein's dual objectives: honoring and elevating women who are reshaping the world, seamlessly blending aesthetics and impact."

As part of this trailblazing endeavor, a "Lunch and Learn" event is in the works, featuring Swanepoel sharing her passion for eco-conscious fashion. She will be joined by a distinguished panel, including Chani Labowitz, Senior Vice President of Creative for eGluck, self-taught designer and industry veteran Victoria Yee Howe, and Custom Collaborative's Founder and Executive Director, Ngozi Okaro. IN MIAMI, PARAISO MOVES SWIM WEEK RUNWAYS TO JUNE

Swim Week runways in Miami will present designer collections to the media one month earlier, from June 8-11, 2023, for the first time in nearly two decades. Designers, buyers, and creators who use the events to promote seasonal, branded content throughout the international swimwear industry season requested a date change, which resulted in the date change.

With a worldwide lineup of trade fairs taking place throughout June and July, it only makes logical that previews of Resort and Swim collections would be displayed sooner - and there's no larger industry gathering than Miami Swim Week.

The swim runway presentations in Miami have clearly blazed a trail in terms of their capacity to reinvent design, promote inclusion, and emphasize diversity.

ONEONE, a Paraiso Miami Beach partner brand, owns and runs its factory in Colombia, where they manufacture each order as it is processed by both merchants and customers. "There are several brands that we have seen improve their sustainable efforts in the last few years and it’s such an integral mission of Paraiso to promote the possibility of adapting to these technologies and getting more brands in the industry, on board", Stojanovic explains.

In 2019, Paraiso launched the Upcycle Project, a design competition in which a select group of students is matched with design mentors such as Becca McCharen-Tran of Chromat and the designers of Bondi Born, L Space, Gigi C, Beach Riot, and Vitamin A. The project's new season is already in the works. In spring, designers and educational partners will be unveiled.

paraíso approved image

The glittering social media influencers, fashion editors, and buyers that come to Miami to admire and exhibit their own famously small fashion week ensembles will now mark their calendars one month earlier than usual.

The iconic Sports Illustrated Swimsuit event has also changed dates, continuing its connection with Paraiso Miami Beach and preparing to showcase its spectacular and energy-packed swim week runway show on Saturday, June 10 at the W South Beach.

SI Tickets, a division of Sports Illustrated, will be the exclusive ticketing partner for all PARAISO swim week events. Passes for all events will go on sale later this month at www.sitickets.com

Acacia, Beach Bunny, Luli Fama, Azulu, Maaji, One One, Sinesia Karol, SHAN, and numerous other new and returning companies will be on display at PARAISO Miami Beach. The high and opulent Paraiso Miami Beach tent will be constructed right on Miami Beach, on the ocean side of Collins Park. PARAISO will also feature pop-ups and supplementary experiences in a variety of locations, including the W South Beach, Soho Beach House, and the Miami Design District.

"We are happy to bring new collaborations to light and offer even more doors to customers, transforming the platform into a genuine Summer fashion festival for anyone to enjoy," Stojanovic said.

STRAP UP FOR SEPTEMBER'S SURF EXPO WITH SANUK X SURFRIDER

As the countdown begins for Orange County’s Surf Expo on September 8th, the world’s largest boardsports trade show, eyes are peeled for the latest innovations in functional swim and beachwear.

The latest capsule collection from Sanuk elevates the classic seaside sandal in partnership with Surfrider, a grassroots nonprofit organization dedicated to oceanic preservation and marine conservation. Available in four gender-inclusive styles, the Protect Your Happy Place Collection features eco-conscious materials of hemp woven lining, responsibly sourced leather detailing from the Leather Working Group, and repurposed algae BLOOM foam footbeds. Considering the efforts from Sanuk to offer sustainable alternatives to the cow leather and suede that usually constitute a beach sandal, it is notable that their ecologically friendly collection remains financially accessible, ranging from $45 to $65 on the Sanuk site.

In addition to donating a share of proceeds from this collection’s revenue to the SurfRider Foundation, Sanuk further donated $50,000 to the organization to advocate for the maintenance of clean oceans.

TABRIA MAJORS x CUPSHE: MIAMI POP-UP AND LA COLLAB

Coast to Coast! Part influencer & part activist, Tabria Majors debuts a summer swim line with Cupshe –in an ode to their joint West Coast roots– yet takes the vivid collection far East for a ravishing runway show and exclusive pop-up at Miami Swim Week.

Tabria wears “Mesh Top, String Triangle & Swirlfriend Bikini Set” from the CUPSHE x TABRIA collab.

Both Majors and Cupshe hail from Los Angeles as California natives, inspiring Tabria Majors to take up a role as co-designer and invoke her familiar cityscape’s vibrance into a series of nineteen swimwear separates, sets, and coverups.

Happy CUPSHE shoppers at the Miami Pop-Up Event from July 16th-31st.

Yet what marks this capsule collection as especially newsworthy is that it constitutes Cupshe’s first plus-size line thus far. With accessible prices ranging from $20-$50, Cupshe’s line dedicated solely to women sizes 0X - 3X proves the wave of body-inclusivity to be one of vast scale. While other highly digitized, diffusion level retailers such as Forever 21 have also made the transition to a complete size range in swimwear, such deliberate merchandising from a beachwear specific brand like Cupshe perhaps persuades the likes of Frankie’s Bikinis and other luxury swimwear companies to follow suit (literally).

Tabria Majors wears the CUPSHE x TABRIA “Love Los Angeles Mesh Tie-Back One Piece.”

As an Instagram-based brand highly reliant on social media for its marketing success, it s(w)imply (get it !?) makes sense for Cupshe to collaborate directly with one of its many fearless, empowering, and influential shoppers; also on Cupshe’s list of high-class clientele include Bella Thorne, Hillary Duff, and Brandi Cyrus.

Count on the Tabria Majors x Cupshe collaborative capsule to make for a sizzling summertime selfie; Majors imbued the line with the exuberance of her own personal style, which does not attempt to hide or obscure the beauty of her body but instead embrace it.

“I never want to shy away from swimwear, so we combined bold colors, unique patterns and textures, and unexpected color-blocking.”
