MBFW AUSTRALIA PRESENTS AJE

MBFW AUSTRALIA PRESENTS BEC + BRIDGE

This year's collection titled "Wipe Out" is a 70's-inspired collection drawing on the feminine shapes and earthy prints this era is famed for. We're talking flares, peasant-style skirts and jumpsuits. And of course, there were a few statement cocktail dresses that every girl is going to want in her closet.

MBFW AUSTRALIA PRESENTS P.E. NATION

This is easily one of the most buzzed-about brands on the schedule this year, and it was easy to see why. Models showing off the brand's new swimwear stood under a stunning shower of makeshift rain.

There was a clear 80s vibe to many of the pieces, with the bold colours and the relaxed shapes, but the collection still embodied the modern edge that designer Pip Edwards is known for.

MBFW AUSTRALIA PRESENTS TIGERLILLY

Tigerlily was certainly one of the most exciting designers on the schedule for 2019. The label made a return to MBFWA after 17 years – its last attendance was in 2002 – and the show did not disappoint.

This particular collection (called AIIIA) was something new from the brand. Sharp and clean, there were a few surprisingly elevated pieces like pantsuits and tailored dresses. But of course there were still many vacation-ready pieces in prints like stripes, florals and a little splash of yellow gingham.

MBFW AUSTRALIA PRESENTS MATTEAU

The Matteau show was a minimalist's dream: a show that focused on cuts and tone rather than sequins and whimsical prints. This designer's MBFWA debut showcased something new, a move outside the realm of swimwear into apparel. We saw dresses, jackets, skirt and tops that will almost certainly become closet staples for fashion fanatics everywhere. Plus, there were some cool cameos from Phoebe Tonkin and Robyn Lawley.

MBFW AUSTRALIA PRESENTS THE INNOVATORS

TAFE NSW Fashion Design School celebrates 21 years of showing at MBFWA in 2019. This year's show featured six budding designers: Mia Rodriguez, Kate Ineson, Jinna Nam, Sarah Moore, Valeska Dominguez and George Habibeh. No two designers were alike, with some showing bright 60s-inspired prints and others showing somewhat gothic, sculptural ball gowns.

MBFW AUSTRALIA PRESENTS JONATHAN SIMKHAI

A love for Bondi's "golden hour" saw Jonathan Simkhai's girls with sun-kissed skin and sunset eyes. Staged at the North Bondi Surf Life Saving Club, Simkhai’s 4pm show was delayed by an hour, magically casting the venue in the most spectacular sunset that perfectly captured the theme of the collection.

MBFW AUSTRALIA PRESENTS BASSIKE

Bassike held an intimate show at Apollo in Potts Point to finish off day two of MBFWA. True to style, the pieces in Bassike's resort collection were simple and well cut with a few unexpected colorful prints mixed throughout the more neutral tones.

MBFW AUSTRALIA PRESENTS HANSEN & GRETEL

The famous pink Jardan stairs served as the perfect venue for Hansen & Gretel's girly resort collection on day three of MBFWA 2019. A show of soft colours and feminine shapes, this is another show that took notes from the 70s. One of the stand-out pieces has to be a maxi dress made from a stunning chevron-style knit.

MBFW AUSTRALIA PRESENTS ALICE MCCALL

Alice McCall's Cosmia resort collection took place in the main gallery amidst hanging gold emblems. While the collection was true to McCall's signature brand of whimsical femininity, the use of neons and metallics referenced a fun and futuristic element.

MBFW AUSTRALIA PRESENTS WE ARE KINDRED

Designer We Are Kindred showed a resort collection called Boheme Heart. The ultra-feminine showcase was a celebration of bohemia with long, ruffled sleeves, off-the shoulder styles and western-style fringing. We're eyeing off a black, boho playsuit which looks like a live-in piece for the coming summer.

MBFW AUSTRALIA PRESENTS BONDI BORN

Swimwear label Bondi Born held its resort show offsite at Merivale's Totti's. The block colour bikinis and slinky maillots in this showcase had everyone begging for summer to return. Outside of swim, the brand showed a range of vacay-ready pieces that can easily that can easily go from beach to bar.

MBFW AUSTRALIA PRESENTS MARIAM SEDDIQ

The Mariam Seddiq resort collection called Lady Love To March was filled with sharp tailoring and sculptural silhouettes. Polished and structured with a mostly neutral colour palette (excluding the metallic pops of course), this is a collection that would be at home in the closets of a sophisticated minimalist.

MBFW AUSTRALIA PRESENTS THE PEOPLE VS.

MBFW AUSTRALIA PRESENTS ANNA QUAN

The Anna Quan resort '20 collection was hosted at the intimate Carol Crawford Studio. True to form, the collection featured masterfully cut and designed closet staples like blazers and knits. There were a few pops of colour that we're not used to seeing from Quan. But these were incorporated in a way that enhanced the polish of the collection instead of taking anything away.
