SUMMER SUPERLATIVES: BEST OF RUNWAY

After the latest thrills of Miami Swim Week –view live coverage from the week’s events now on our Instagram– our editors take a coast back through the summer's highlights: our most fickle flings and most seasonless love affairs. Put on your rose-colored glasses. But make sure they’re RUNWAY: it’s time to review!

BRANDON MAXWELL RESORT 2023

Seaside glam reaches new heights with classically elegant silhouettes imprinted with tropical motifs. Palm fronded mini clutch bags and sweeping skirts fit for a destination wedding or a romantic walk on the beach. As a New York based designer, Maxwell clearly channels his Americana roots with Golden Hollywood nostalgia reminiscent of a drive down the Pacific Coast Highway.

ETRO RESORT 2023

Marco de Vincenzo presents the Italian atelier’s signature paisley with a bohemian twist; fringe, tasseling, and psychedelic swirls evoke the vibrant lifestyle of the Amalfi Coast. Folkwear hits the shores in accessories featuring sun-soaked leather and Western turquoise. Kimono sleeved caftans cover woven bikini tops in an exuberant palette of jewel tones.

CHLOÉ RESORT 2023

Maritime minimalism debuts with a raw and rustic lookbook by Gabriela Hearst. Bareness emanates, with the body itself presenting the ultimate summer statement; yet no spotlight is spared for the accessories. Pearl detailing passes reference to the treasures of the ocean itself while over/undersize purses propose leather beach bags in place of commonplace canvas or straw alternatives.

ULLA JOHNSON RESORT 2023

Rural inspired embroidery in Japanese polyester pitches Ulla Johnson to be the master of resortwear— layered open weaves and one piece suits make for summer style inspiration that will last from shore to the picnic. Warm hues of mustard and rust amp up the sunshine while organic jacquards mimic their sublime floral backdrops.

MARA HOFFMAN RESORT 2023

Although Mara Hoffman works out of the United States, her Venetian bikinis and cheeky animal prints invoke the classical forms and figures of Grecian antiquity. Peekaboo cutouts and perilous placements ooze with summertime sensuality in a variety of swimwear suits and scandalous sets.

MOSCHINO RESORT 2023

Jeffrey Scott’s playful personality translates into a whimsically 60’s and 70’s inspired collection rife with go-go boots, loud colors, and allover crochets. Bell sleeves and fringed hems continue to hint at a bohemian flair while macroprint florals gesture at the it girl’s summer secret: dopamine dressing.

PUCCI FALL 2022 RTW

Camille Miceli delivers a collection of distinctly Pucci-esque prints: abstract, wavy, and emanating. Saturated with silk and spilling over with scarves, these looks pop off of the page in high intensity hues while seeming to flow with movement. Fish and wave-like motifs reflect a summertime sensibility paired with chunky wedge heels.

MARQUES’ ALMEIDA FALL 2022 RTW

Portugese designers Marta Marques and Paolo Almeida dip their feet in the water of summer staples to reintroduce with their own spins: the infamous Jacquemus oversize hat debuts in playful patchwork for the ultimate shade while the ubiquitous crochet coverup finds deconstruction and distressing.
