The Swim Week Calendar goes global 365 days a year, and SEASTYLE simply can’t be anchored down to one shore.

In honor of a bicoastal summer, our editors hail from East Coast eccentricity (See Trend: “Staying Strapped,” Seastyle: “Menswear or What to Wear?”) & take to the shores of the West.

Del Mar makes for an uber-chill destination spot to stroll, tan, or hang ten; here we find casual cool girl style in the form of

breezy linens, delicate florals, and netted totes.

In fact, the tote bag cannot be understated as the ultimate accessory for these on-the-go sea breezers.

Classic canvas graphics provide roomy storage space plus a note of personalization with band logos and iconic pop cultural imagery. Resort 2023 collections from R13 (Slide 10), ANNA SUI (Slide 11), LOEWE, (Slide 12) feature their own renditions of this tote-ally tubular trend and ETRO (Slide 13) presents the perfect beach bag in a playful weave.

Styling add-on that SoCal can’t live without? The hat— in baseball caps and wide brimmed floppy weaves. Rather than the tides of aesthetically pleasing statement swimwear rising in the East,

the West coast currents bring waves of comfort and utility.

Yet these beachgoers value performance in more than just accessories. Activewear surfs a wave in psychedelic, high cut wetsuits for functionality and funky fun. In menswear, relaxed cotton tees soak up the summer sun while tropical and nautical motifs steer the way.

Themes of pastel and cream beachwear contrast with notes of neon in vivid prints– the paradigm summary of Southern California’s killer combo. Eternal summer, eternal sun.

MENSWEAR or WHAT TO WEAR?

To Wear or Not To Wear: The Banana Hammock.

An age-old question.

In this SEASTYLE Spread, our editors take to the sandy beaches of Far Rockaway in Queens, New York with a mission to capture the spirit of modern swimwear for the underrepresented half of the cabana.

Tie up your trunks, it’s time for menswear.

While the warm waters of the East Coast meet their match in sunny sky blues, marbled aquas, and faded chambrays, it is clear that mens’ swimwear floats towards a classically cool Americana style. Layering graphic tees and muscle tanks with chains of silver & gold, the studs sunbathing on this summertime shore prove that accessorizing remains integral even for a day on the waves. Bucket hats and baseball caps complement nautical motifs of navy striping.

One thing shines bright as day. Even sixty years after the debut of the iconic silhouette — perhaps the cisgendered male’s version of the teeny tiny bikini— there is no stopping the provocative empowerment of the Speedo.

Last Slides feature Look 23 from VEJAS Pre-Fall 2022 & Look 17 from DIOR HOMME Resort 2023 for high fashion takes on “Barely There” mens’ swim wear and rapidly rising inseams.
