Mack Weldon is launching swimwear.
The direct-to-consumer men’s basics line has introduced a board short, which retails for $98, and trunks, which retail for $88, that will come in five color ways.
“There’s a lot of great looking and functional swimwear out there, but we always struggled to find the perfect blend,” said Brian Berger, Mack Weldon’s founder and chief executive officer. “Options felt too sporty or too high fashion so we went to work. The result is something that can hold its own riding the surf or strolling to beach bar.”
Matthew Congdon, the vice president of design at Mack Weldon, said the plan for the collection was to merge classic swimwear styles with innovative fabrics. Both styles are made from antimicrobial, quick-drying stretch material and include a waterproof zip pocket to protect valuables.
“Some of us loved active swimwear, but it never looked so great out of the water,” said Congdon. “Some of us loved traditional swimwear, but conceded that the fabrics were stuck in the past. Much like we approach other great menswear basics, our goal was to combine all the latest technology with classic style.”
Mack Weldon has continued to grow since Brian Berger and Michael Isaacman cofounded it in 2012. They started in socks and underwear but have since introduced apparel and sportswear. They recently partnered with Equinox on its AIRKNITx series.
In 2015, they also brought on Howard Socol as a strategic adviser, and Congdon, who was previously the vice president of men’s design at Calvin Klein Underwear, joined the team last year. This Equinox partnership marks a move into wholesale distribution.
